The Sword of Angelus played a significant role in season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Angelus wants the powerful demon Acathla awakened because Acathla has the power to destroy the world. As Buffy and Angelus engage in battle, Willow attempts the spell to curse Angelus with his soul. She succeeds, but only after Acathla is awakened. At this point, only Angel’s blood can save the world. Using the sword given to her by Kendra (which is the sword a knight used to kill Acathla many years before) and just seconds after Angel’s soul is returned, Buffy drives the sword through Angel’s heart, sending him to hell and closing Acathla’s vortex.
